  • When a recipe is called 'Easy Lasagna' you just have to try it, amaright?!
Oh what a joy! A simple tomato sauce is combined with creme fraiche (I made mine with homemade Kefir) thus eliminating the need for a ricotta layer. 
We loved it so much, that when I was asked to make a lasagna  that would feed 20, I just had to use this recipe. I was hoping for a piece. I didn't get one- it was inhaled! 😆😉

  • Gotta love a good biscuit. 
Everything Biscuits from Small Victories by <a href=/user/turshen>@turshen</a> 
Julia takes the toppings from an Everything Bagel and transports them to this lovely biscuit recipe. 
I used kefir instead of buttermilk but kept the rest of recipe intact. 
My only method change: As per my 'Herbed Kefir Biscuits' (in the blog archives) I roll out the dough lightly and fold in half. Repeat two more times. Then roll out to 1 and cut out.  That's where the extra lift comes from!

  • Seriously, the wind sounds ominous. The snow is whipping around. So this is the perfect contrast! Isn't it lovely that citrus is in season when we truly need their sunshine ☀️
Last year I posted a Braised Fennel and Blood Orange Salad with Pecans and Feta. 
But today I craved something light. The fennel and citrus are still there. Added some kiwi. And a good drizzle of the best olive oil you can find, along with finishing <a href=/user/drompepper>@drompepper</a> and Maldon salt. That's it. 
On the blog. Keep warm and find sunshine wherever you can. 😉

Egyptian street food for dinner today. And nary a camel in sight.
I switched up my recipe by using Forbidden rice, Turkish lentils and ditalini this time around. The tomato sauce is extra spicy, and I tossed the frizzled onions in dukkah.

Seemingly simple, but the result is a truly crispy skin, luscious flavour, and a really juicy chicken. It helps that I started with a succulent Mennonite chicken!

And I found a few frozen currants in the freezer. They're now in these strawberry preserves filled rolls. With some cardamom bitters. Just add steaming coffee! Let the weekend begin ☺

  • If I could only have one meal for the rest of my life... this is my desert island dish, 'Chicken with Caramelized Onions and Cardamom Rice'. The whole cloves, cardamom pods and cinnamon sticks are only rivalled by the tart barberries, the perfect foil to the decadent onions. And I shared this dish with a group of brilliant food bloggers a month ago in Napa. 
The memories from that wonderful, memorable time have finally been collected and are now up on the blog. Along with the recipe for this dish. Perfect for the family or for a feast!!
