A Couple Cooks (@acouplecooks) /acouplecooks
Hiya! A quick intro if you're new here: we're A Couple Cooks! Alex & Sonja...and now Larson! 👶 We never in a million years would have guessed we'd introduce ourselves that way, because cooking was the last thing we were interested in when we met back in 2000. Back then, we ate hot pockets and fast food and thought cooking was for other people. Certainly not us. ___ To make a long story very very short, we wanted to start having people over for dinner and realized hot pockets wouldn't cut it! So we started to read cookbooks and watch cooking shows and surround ourselves with people who loved to cook. We read a book called #FoodMatters by @markbittman that challenged us to eat more vegetables because it was better for our health & the planet. We realized eating veggies could be so delicious, it didn't feel like you were giving anything up. Back then, no one was talking about this where we live in Indiana! But gradually, people started asking how to cook healthier and make veggies taste delicious, so we decided to start a food blog. After all, it was 2010 and that's what everyone was doing: starting blogs. 😂 Fast forward 8 years, and we're still running the A Couple Cooks website, we wrote the #PrettySimpleCooking cookbook AND started our Small Bites podcast: all based on the theme that what we eat can be a powerful force for good: for our bodies, relationships, and the world around us. That food can bring us together, despite our differences. Andat literally anyone can learn to cook, if we did. ___ In the middle of all of this: I was diagnosed with leukemia, and we had a long difficult season of understanding how we would build our family. Due to various health issues, we chose the path of adoption. Two weeks before our cookbook manuscript draft was due, little Larson came into our family, and he has since been the greatest light of our lives! ✨💓 __ There's a lot more to all this but...thank you SO much for following along here. Even more than food, our greatest love is PEOPLE -- connecting with you over food. Thank you for sharing life with us! ____ 📸 @kelleyjordanphotographyHiya!
