The finals of Couvoisier’s Toast of Paris International Cocktail Competition, held at The Purple Bar in Hotel du Collectionneur Arc de Triomph, Paris, a few weeks ago (check out the Story Highlight on my profile to see some video clips and notes on what I used to shoot the event). ⠀ Watching anyone who is at the top of their craft is a joy, at least for me — though I know nothing about tending bar, the finalists all managed to keep me captivated during their two-cocktail performances, and I’d like to think I learned a few things along the way. The energy they all brought to the competition — and the support they showed each other before, during, and after — was inspiring, and made it feel like watching a group of friends showing off to each other, rather than competitors vying for the top position. ⠀ The finalists, including the champion, Ferenc Haraszti (first photo), represented Austria, the UK, France, Italy, and Germany. All were outstanding, as were their drinks (I don’t have to be an expert to know *that* ;) and they left the judges with an extremely difficult task. ⠀ Those judges — Courvoisier’s global brand ambassador Rebecca (@rebecca.courvoisier_ambassador), esteemed author and cocktail expert Salvatore Calabrese (@cocktailmaestro), and Master Blender Patrice Pinet — had their work cut out for them, deliberating for over 40 minutes and even creating a runner-up award that wasn’t part of the original plan, as the final decision was so close. ⠀ I’m so glad I got to see everyone’s presentations, sample the cocktails, and capture these talented artists and their creations.
